Social criteria examine\u00a0how it manages relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities where it operates. Governance deals with a company\u2019s leadership, executive pay,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/a\/audit.asp\">audits<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/i\/internalcontrols.asp\">internal controls<\/a>,\u00a0and shareholder rights.<\/p>\n<p>ESG investing is sometimes referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/sustainability.asp\">sustainable<\/a>\u00a0investing, \u00a0Socially responsible investing(SRI) or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/investing-for-sustainability-impact-5210477\">impact investing<\/a>. To assess a company based on ESG criteria, investors look at a broad range of behaviours and policies.<\/p>\n<p>Adopting ESG principles means that corporate strategy focuses on the three pillars of the environment, social, and governance. This means taking measures to lower pollution, CO<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0output, and reduce waste. To get the benefit over others, having a competitive advantage has become a primary condition.<\/p>\n<p>By embracing ESG, one can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Drive Innovation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhance Resilience<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengthen Brand Value<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote Sustainability<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW ESG INVESTMENT GROWING IN INDIA ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ESG investing revolves around evaluating companies based on their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices. It goes beyond financial performance and considers non-financial factors that can influence a company\u2019s long-term success and societal impact.<\/p>\n<p>ESG investing in India presents a range of opportunities and benefits for investors. By investing in companies with strong ESG practices, investors can align their portfolios with sustainability goals while potentially mitigating risks associated with environmental and social factors. Moreover, ESG-focused companies often exhibit better long-term performance and resilience, making them attractive investment options.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES FOR ESG INVESTING IN INDIA ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the opportunities for ESG investment and a lot of benefits, here, also stays some challenges for the ESG investment and its growth. Utmost challenges are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Availability and standardization of ESG data<\/li>\n<li>Lack of Top management support<\/li>\n<li>Lack of knowledge among employers and employees<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty of converting awareness into action<\/li>\n<li>Fear of new assessments and failure<\/li>\n<li>High cost and lowered profits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the heart of ESG, investing lies a dichotomy between <strong>sustainability<\/strong> and <strong>profitability<\/strong>. Many researchers claim that it is possible to obtain both at the same time, popularizing the <strong>\u201cdoing good and doing well\u201d<\/strong> motto. When we span hundreds of articles, the conclusions are not clear-cut, which is the conclusion of most meta-studies. But at the same time, if SRI is (on average) not costly and may be socially beneficial, then it almost qualifies as\u00a0<strong>ethical free lunch<\/strong>. This is the most salient takeaway from the book.
